Sometimes you come across a product or service that’s so clever that you’re constantly finding new ways to use it.

That’s exactly what happened when we looked at drop.io – an online file storage and sharing service.

Now, online storage isn’t new. There are plenty of folks out there that offer data backup and storage services with free or low-cost plans that allow you to upload photos, music and documents. But drop.io adds a different twist to it that makes it a handy tool for sales and business people.

What triggered us about drop.io is their focus on quick and easy sharing and collaboration, not just on data storage. That makes it a powerful solution for professionals in need of an easy way to share documents (sales proposals, presentations, marketing collaterals) with colleagues, their management or even with customers.

Drop.io is free, there’s no sign-up and you don’t need an account – yeah, we liked that too.

You simply go to their website and create a “drop” (a private place to store documents) and upload your files. Your files can be accessed at a unique web address and if you decide to set a password, your files are secure and you’ll be able to set permissions for those that collaborate on your project. You and others can add notes to your drop and with a unique email address, you can forward email correspondence directly to your online space.

Possible applications? Think of creating a drop for a major prospect where you and your tech support guy or your manager can share relevant documents. Or if you’re a sales manager, use it as a place to gather ideas for your next sales meeting – with input from your team.

You could even use it to store your client testimonials, perhaps your resume or letters of recommendation. The possibilities are endless.

An elaborate test drop with audio and video can be found here. We also took a quick stab at our own SalesTeamTools drop – check it out – we removed the password so you can play with it. It’s pretty cool stuff.
